🔍 When is it ripe?
Small apples ripen from green to red, yellow, or orange by variety. Very tart raw but excellent for jelly and cider. Ripe when the colour is fully developed and the fruit lifts off with a gentle twist.
There's a big crabapple tree at the southwest corner of the Aldi parking lot. My roommates and I picked probably 40 pounds of crabapples there last fall. It is by a busy road and I'm not sure what kind of pollution it gets exposed to, but we did make a lot of great crabapplesauce with the fruit!
