🔍 When is it ripe?
Deep red haws (berries) develop from green. Ripe when dark red and slightly soft. Edible raw but mealy — better for haw jelly, syrup, or wine. Contains a large stone. Improve after first frost.
1. Enter paved trail. 2. Follow paved left turn-off trail. 3. At trail split, follow right on unpaved trail. 4. Not far from split, several healthy hawthorn trees are edging along right side. 5. Trees are easily identified by the long spike thorns along branches and twigs. 6. Ripe fruit is red.
