🌰
Carob
📍 1444 Spaulding Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90019, USA
🗓 Season: September · October · November
🔍 When is it ripe?
Long, leathery pods turn from green to dark brown and dry on the tree. Ripe when completely dark brown, hard, and fragrant with a chocolate-like smell. Eat the pods (not the seeds) — naturally very sweet.
Not a carob tree. There is a ficus, carrotwood, jacaranda, and a whole bunch of honey locust and cassia fistula. The last of which are poisonous to eat. Do not eat them. Honey locust is edible.
