🔍 When is it ripe?
Fully black (not red or dark red) and comes off the stem with no resistance — zero pull. Dull rather than shiny; a shiny black berry is still slightly underripe and tart. Eat the same day for best flavour.
relatively large berries, but turn black before fully ripe flavor-wise (some of the dark berries are bitter if the fruit is still a little firm) and how ripening can be patchy until late summer. Thorny on canes and leaves, so be ready for getting stuck. Grows up to the sidewalk. watch out for the abundant poison ivy nearby.
