Blackberry

Blackberry
🗓 Season: July · August · September
🔍 When is it ripe?
Fully black (not red or dark red) and comes off the stem with no resistance — zero pull. Dull rather than shiny; a shiny black berry is still slightly underripe and tart. Eat the same day for best flavour.
Lots of Himalayan Blackberry bushes. They taste fantastic, but they are also the invasive type. Himalayan blackberry out-competes low growing native vegetation through shading and build-up of leaf litter and dead stems. It can prevent the establishment of shade intolerant trees such as Garry Oak and ponderosa pine. They are listed on the invasive species council of BC (www.bcinvasives.ca). They also make amazing blackberry cobbler.
