🌰
Persian walnut
📍 269 Turleigh Hl, Bradford-on-Avon BA15 2HF, UK
🗓 Season: September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Green husk cracks and turns brown-black when ripe, exposing the shell. Shake branches — ripe nuts fall freely. Gloves essential. Cure in a single layer for 2 weeks before storage.
The trees are on the lawn, but I imagine the nuts would fall and roll into the driveway end and street. 2020 is a mast year for area walnuts- the past three summers have been dismal. These trees are too large to pick for pickled walnuts in june, but check them out in autumn for harvest for food, dye and medicine.
