🔍 When is it ripe?
Unlike apples, pears ripen from the inside out. Harvest when the skin colour lightens and the fruit separates with a gentle upward twist. Ripen off the tree at room temperature — leave on a counter until the neck yields to thumb pressure.
The pear tree is just inside the fenced back yard. If it's dark out, I bet you could get at them. Alternatively, make friends with one of the folks living here and ask if you can harvest them. They look awesome. It's still a sort-of alms house.
