🔍 When is it ripe?
Bright orange-red berry clusters. Intensely bitter raw due to parasorbic acid — cook or freeze before eating. Excellent for rowan jelly (traditional with game). Ripe when fully orange-red and slightly soft.
Rowan berries available in late summer + fall. Save some for the birds, they eat this to fatten up before winter. Do not eat berries raw. Jelly or preserve them.
