🔍 When is it ripe?
Harvest only the top 4–6 young leaves in spring before flowering. Use gloves — sting disappears completely on cooking. Blanch, steam, or make into soup. Do not eat once plant flowers (gets gritty). Highly nutritious — rich in iron and vitamins.
There are many patches of stinging nettle throughout this massive housing complex. Look on the edges, abandoned fields. Leaves in the spring, seeds in June, roots during the autumn, stems for cordage after the first cold nights.
