ginkgo

📍 1037 Pleasant Hill Rd, Lafayette, CA 94549, USA
ginkgo Public
🗓 Season: October · November
🔍 When is it ripe?
Female trees only: fleshy, apricot-like fruit falls when ripe, emitting a very unpleasant rancid-butter smell. Wear gloves — the outer flesh causes dermatitis. The inner nut is edible; roast or boil after removing shells. Limit intake (toxins at high dose).
For those who enjoy preparing their own, you can find a few female trees on Pleasant Hill Rd. that drop their gingko nuts! Be careful when picking. Use gloves. The fruit causes rashes if it touches your skin (a rare few are immune to it). Just know what you're getting into!
