🗓 Season: September · October · July · August
🔍 When is it ripe?
Black walnut: Harvest when the green husk turns yellow-green and the nut falls naturally or can be shaken loose. Wear gloves — the husk stains permanently. Remove husk immediately, then cure nuts in a cool, airy place for 2–3 weeks before cracking. Intensely flavoured.
Blackberry: Fully black (not red or dark red) and comes off the stem with no resistance — zero pull. Dull rather than shiny; a shiny black berry is still slightly underripe and tart. Eat the same day for best flavour.
Plum: Colour fully develops (purple, red, or yellow by variety) and a waxy bloom appears on the skin. Softens slightly at the tip. Taste-test for sweetness — European plums are better slightly soft; Japanese types can be harvested firmer.
Park at the pull out with the chain, walking take the right trail to apple trees and plum trees looks to me to be an abandoned homestead. once on the trail cut through brush heading towards the dougfir treeline on map it looks like a dense clump of green bushes! just look and use your nose!
