Cattail

📍 Hopedale Parklands, 25 Driftway St, Hopedale, MA 01747, USA
Cattail Public
🗓 Season: May · June · July
🔍 When is it ripe?
Multiple edible parts across the season: young shoots (spring), green flower spikes (May–June, boil like corn), yellow pollen (June–July, shake into a bag), and starchy root (year-round). Green spikes are ripe when fully formed but still bright green.
The whole "field" is cattails next to the trail and bridge. Not the most accessible but plenty grow close to the trail to be reached without jumping in the water with the beavers and swans. You'll have to compete with the birds.
