🔍 When is it ripe?
Black mulberry: Deep purple-black when ripe; intensely flavoured and juicy. Spread a tarp and shake the tree — ripe fruits fall immediately. Stains everything permanently — wear old clothes. Do not pick unripe red berries (mildly hallucinogenic).
Black raspberry: Deep purple-black, duller than blackberries. Separates from the hollow core like a red raspberry. Richer, more intense flavour than red raspberry. Short season — harvest daily.
Garlic mustard: Heart-shaped lower leaves and triangular upper leaves; white 4-petalled flowers. Harvest young leaves before or during flowering. Raw taste is garlicky and mustard-hot. Seeds can be used as a mustard substitute. Invasive in North America.
Mulberries(1 or 2 trees) Raspberries & Burdock are on south side of the bike path within 100ft west of where the bike path goes from north/south to east west. Garlic Mustard is in the pine forest easily visible from the walking path. if you can't find the path, make your own. This is an invasive species known to choke out ground level plants in forest environments. Please over-harvest to encourage native plants growth.
