onions grow in this general area. the summer i was here, this bare mountaintop was the only mosquito free place we had come across all day. everywhere else were dense clouds of the little sucker that rose up out of the foliage and blocked out the sun as we approached, their collective buzzing was like high voltage power lines in moist humid air. as soon as we would stop moving hundreds would landed on us. this spot offered us sweet relief from them and a wonderful sweet onion snack provided by mother earth.
