🔍 When is it ripe?
Must be fully ripe (very soft, almost jelly-like) before eating. Harvest after first frost or when naturally falling. Dark orange to purple when ready. Rich, caramel-sweet flavour.
There are 2-3 American persimmon trees in the park. The trees are enormous. I've only ever seen the fruit high above in the canopy, not on the ground.
Also park is only open on weekends. The trees are located just a little ways inside the front gate on Shaler Blvd, but set back about 50 ft. You're supposed to stay on the paths and not wander into the brush. There is a greeter at the gate.
