Pecan
📍 6131 Bourgeois Rd, Houston, TX 77066, USA
🗓 Season: October · November
🔍 When is it ripe?
The green husk splits into four sections and turns brown when ripe. Shake branches or wait for fall. Cure in a cool, dry place for 2–3 weeks. Kernels should be full and not shrivelled.
Large pecan on abandoned property. Small pecans this year. Pulled right in off of busy street.
Status update: I am not the person who originally posted on this location, but I did visit it on 11/14/2020. Sure enough the tree is there, and its BIG, but there were no pecans. There are a lot of crushed beer cans on the corner nearby and there are signs that homeless folks may be living on the abandoned property camp-style. If so they may be harvesting the nuts and eating them as well.
