Blackberry

📍 GQ3J+4C Las Cruces, CA, USA
Blackberry Public
🗓 Season: July · August · September
🔍 When is it ripe?
Fully black (not red or dark red) and comes off the stem with no resistance — zero pull. Dull rather than shiny; a shiny black berry is still slightly underripe and tart. Eat the same day for best flavour.
after a short uphill walk there is a trail that veers off from the main fire road. here blackberry bushes grow thick in the shade beneath sycamore trees next to a gently flowing creek. if you keep walking, a little further is a hot spring with an out of place palm tree sheltering it from the hot sun. i like to come up here after stopping at the himalayan restaurant in santa barbara and getting food to go, then coming up here and eating the curry, or whatever they had at the buffet that day, while soaking in the relaxing water and eating wild blackberries for dessert. if you park at the trailhead a fee must be paid, but if you park just a short distance from it on the road where you can still see the freeway no fee is required. peace , love and light to you all
