🔍 When is it ripe?
Common sea-buckthorn: Bright orange, very tart. Gloves and eye protection recommended due to thorns. Harvest after full orange colour develops. High in vitamins C and E.
Fig: Hangs heavily and droops at the neck; skin softens and may split. A sweet drop of nectar at the base eye and the absence of white sap at the stem confirm ripeness. Pick with a gentle twist.
Garlic mustard: Heart-shaped lower leaves and triangular upper leaves; white 4-petalled flowers. Harvest young leaves before or during flowering. Raw taste is garlicky and mustard-hot. Seeds can be used as a mustard substitute. Invasive in North America.
