🔍 When is it ripe?
Cornelian cherry dogwood: Bright red olive-shaped berries. Very sour when first red — wait until they turn deep red and fall freely or can be shaken off. High in vitamin C. Good for jam, wine, and sauce.
Serviceberry: Small, round, turning from red to deep purple-black. Sweet and blueberry-like when fully dark. Birds eat them as soon as they ripen — check daily. Best fresh or in pies and jam.
Cherry dogwood berries along the path to the parking lot. There is also a serviceberry tree right next to the patio. If you rent the facility you could probably give them a nibble.
