Fig

📍 San Luis Mission Park
Fig Public
🗓 Season: June · July · August · September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Hangs heavily and droops at the neck; skin softens and may split. A sweet drop of nectar at the base eye and the absence of white sap at the stem confirm ripeness. Pick with a gentle twist.
Several groups of tall fig trees; can be found on the northern side of the park along the parts of the trail that approach the street. --I have visited these trees, and if I have found the same trees as the marker's author, they are not figs. There is a stand of tall trees at the north end of the park, on the north side of the path near the road, but they are tall and whip like, and the foliage is wrong. The fruits are shaped and colored like unripe figs, but upon cutting them open, there are stones which take up the entire center. The rest is occupied by woody connective flesh. - SB 9/2/2013
