Hawthorn

📍 21 Barton Rd, Plymouth PL9 9FL, UK
Hawthorn Public
🗓 Season: September · October · November
🔍 When is it ripe?
Deep red haws (berries) develop from green. Ripe when dark red and slightly soft. Edible raw but mealy — better for haw jelly, syrup, or wine. Contains a large stone. Improve after first frost.
A rather large hawthorn tree is on the corner of the road here, the leaves are edible and taste like apple skins (but they are rather dry) as for the fruits they are also edible but they watch out for the stone like pitted seed in the centre of the fruit
