🔍 When is it ripe?
Green husks turn brown and split; nuts drop naturally. Gather promptly before wildlife. Kernels should be plump and cream-coloured. Dry before storing.
Oak and hickories all around the park. I saw lots of different-looking acorn and hickory nuts, but I don't have the best eye for these things so I don't know what specific species live here. The oaks are clustered together near the center and northeast of the park, the hickories are towards the southeast corner and at least one is in the north part of the park. The one in the north is very tall and has no branches short enough to be accessible to humans.
