🔍 When is it ripe?
Colour fully develops (purple, red, or yellow by variety) and a waxy bloom appears on the skin. Softens slightly at the tip. Taste-test for sweetness — European plums are better slightly soft; Japanese types can be harvested firmer.
Small, round red and yellow plums all along this hedgerow. They're mostly up high, but some can be reached on branches especially where the footpath turns to go further up the hill. Very sweet. Yellow ripen after purple.
