🔍 When is it ripe?
Round, yellow-bronze skin. Unlike European pears, eat when still firm — they do not soften at room temperature. Ripe when colour develops fully and a sweet fragrance is detectable. Crisp, juicy flesh.
Asian pear (apple pear) growing by I-435N near 87th Street Pkway . From a core obviously chucked out a car window. Fruit is abundant but stunted due to lack of thinning. Fruit in late October is good, very juicy but slightly bitter. Definitely edible. Growing about 75 feet south of a sizeable persimmon tree.
