🔍 When is it ripe?
Deep purple-black when ripe; intensely flavoured and juicy. Spread a tarp and shake the tree — ripe fruits fall immediately. Stains everything permanently — wear old clothes. Do not pick unripe red berries (mildly hallucinogenic).
Two mulberry trees in Subi Centro park, maintained by council. Smaller plant is free standing. Larger plant is part of a garden bed so care is required not to step on other plants. Sometimes raided in season by local birds.
