Grape

📍 Sagamore Park Road, Hudson NH
Grape
🗓 Season: August · September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Berries fully coloured and slightly soft. Stem where it joins the bunch turns woody and brown. Seeds easily visible inside. Sweet throughout when fully ripe — taste from different parts of the cluster as they ripen unevenly. Grapes do not continue ripening after harvest.
Not the most serene foraging experience due to the highway, but there are a TON of big purple grapes here. Bring a backpack. Bike from Nashua via Appleside Dr Take the bike path from Appleside over the Hudson bridge, then take a right onto Sagamore Park Road, all the way towards Lowell Rd until you reach the turnaround by the willow tree and across from the white house. LOTS of grapes climbing along the chain link fence. Try nearest to Lowell Road first, and work your way down the fenceline. You can also go on the other side of the fence to get grapes. BE CAREFUL further down Sagamore Park Road, because there is poison ivy. It does not appear to climb to the grapes, but you will be stepping in it if the grass is not mowed short. Great for making jelly, juice, or fermenting into wine!
