Forest garden
This space is (among other intrinsic qualities) a re/nascent FOREST GARDEN, a novel eco-system, a meta/physical permaculture design site, an eco-social enhancement site, an in-concept-only restoration site, an historic remnant of an 1847 settler colonial "home-stead" dwelling, and a neighborhood social space.
This space strives not to be an extension of ongoing colonial occupations. This site's current dwellers strive to come to terms with their role as settler colonial occupants on this land; while understanding that there can be no certain future for us here as complicit occupiers (so-called property owners) of this site, and that abandonment of this site is what may be required to continue this path of commensurating our evolving intentions and understandings with what is required of us.. This will not be easy for us, we are not very certain that we can even dare to attempt this. We take comfort in believing that we are not alone.
**(this description may/should be updated from time to time to reflect our present intentions; co-evolving beliefs and understandings)
update (Aug 29, 2016): We are coming to learn a bit more about how this "property" was "acquired". While local mythology would have it that these lands were not being used at the time of appropriation, that is a bit like saying if you are having a nap you are fair game to be buried.. well anyhow it would seem that these "properties" although now subdivided many, many times were likely granted to loyalists for their good deeds (read here: genocide and barbarism). We will be researching this further and using our privilege and status as a great responsibility to bring to light this untold history of Hamilton.
