American plum

📍 MR73+VW Ted's Place, CO, USA
American plum Private but overhanging
🗓 Season: August · September
🔍 When is it ripe?
Red to yellow, about 2 cm across. Tart-sweet when ripe; flesh softens and the fruit falls readily. Good raw or cooked. Watch for early drop — often ready by mid-August.
Plum trees along the side of the road past Ted's place, overhanging the fence onto the road. Shrubby habit, produce lots of fragrant fruit with tart skins and super sweet interiors. Fruits were glaucous but appearing reddish-orange when ripe, rather than blue/purple. I'm not 100% sure these were P. americana but it seemed like the most likely option from the list. There's two clusters of trees a few hundred feet apart. I saw people pulled over picking fruit here and came back a few days later. I picked 2 gallons here Sept 4th 2022, and there was still a ton leftover. Photo is from last Sept.
