Serviceberry
📍 20 River Ter., New York, NY 10282, USA
🗓 Season: June · July
🔍 When is it ripe?
Small, round, turning from red to deep purple-black. Sweet and blueberry-like when fully dark. Birds eat them as soon as they ripen — check daily. Best fresh or in pies and jam.
Several amelanchier trees in Teardrop Park. Some might assume the park is privately-owned because of surrounding residential buildings, but it is publicly owned. Don't walk in the planting beds to pick berries, though - there's a lot of work that goes into this award-winning, MVVA-designed park.
