🔍 When is it ripe?
Colour fully develops (purple, red, or yellow by variety) and a waxy bloom appears on the skin. Softens slightly at the tip. Taste-test for sweetness — European plums are better slightly soft; Japanese types can be harvested firmer.
General marker for plums, all along this path. Some variety in quality, (there are some trees that bear delicious and immediately edible fruit, while a few seem to produce mushy, poorly flavoured plums).
