🔍 When is it ripe?
Fully black (not red or dark red) and comes off the stem with no resistance — zero pull. Dull rather than shiny; a shiny black berry is still slightly underripe and tart. Eat the same day for best flavour.
Amazing quantities of berries in mid-July 2020. Delicious! There is a 'Texas Fence' cow gate here and the berry bushes are growing up around it on both sides. We were able to get a large ziplock bag in under 20 minutes. You will probably want to pull past the gate in order to keep your car off the road. There are more bushes in the campground further down the road but they were not ripe in mid-July (perhaps August?)
