🔍 When is it ripe?
Blue-black berries in flat clusters; cook before eating. Ripe when uniformly dark blue-black and heavy. Also note: elderflowers in June are edible raw and excellent for cordial.
Medium shrub on the side of the gravel walking path just east of three dawn redwoods. Not positive on specific elder variety. I visited in early August and the fruit was already passed.
