🔍 When is it ripe?
Black raspberry (Rubus occidentalis): Deep purple-black; pulls free from the hollow centre. Strongly flavoured. Picks over about two weeks — check every couple of days.
Grape: Berries fully coloured and slightly soft. Stem where it joins the bunch turns woody and brown. Seeds easily visible inside. Sweet throughout when fully ripe — taste from different parts of the cluster as they ripen unevenly. Grapes do not continue ripening after harvest.
Some 'strawberry' plants hidden under others along the bushy edge near fence. Hard to find without looking for them. There's a couple small patches of black raspberry along the fence edge but only enough to make a nice nibble while harvesting other things. There are a few grape vines with immature fruit as of June.
