Black mulberry

Black mulberry Public
🗓 Season: June · July · August
🔍 When is it ripe?
Deep purple-black when ripe; intensely flavoured and juicy. Spread a tarp and shake the tree — ripe fruits fall immediately. Stains everything permanently — wear old clothes. Do not pick unripe red berries (mildly hallucinogenic).
Moonflower Campground Site, huge tree sets at the bottom of a dry creekbed allowing easy access to overloaded branches from both sides of the creek. The tree is very close to the parking area. BLM land, open to public. The site is near rock art and old wooden ladder in a crack in the canyon wall that runs to the top of the canyon. Stopping is allowed, but extended stays require a camping permit.
