🔍 When is it ripe?
Small, round, turning from red to deep purple-black. Sweet and blueberry-like when fully dark. Birds eat them as soon as they ripen — check daily. Best fresh or in pies and jam.
Excellent mature serviceberry trees, about 4 or 5 of them spread along the river here. Great tasting fruit, easily accessed, and abundant. Excellent for eating fresh, frozen, making wine, in baked goods (pancakes especially!), etc.
