🔍 When is it ripe?
Mirabelle plum: Small golden-yellow plums with a reddish blush when ripe. Very sweet and aromatic. Ripen from late July; fall freely when ready. Pick as soon as they soften — they ferment quickly on the branch.
Plum: Colour fully develops (purple, red, or yellow by variety) and a waxy bloom appears on the skin. Softens slightly at the tip. Taste-test for sweetness — European plums are better slightly soft; Japanese types can be harvested firmer.
Super delicious small, red plums at cyclepath crossroads near the Ditton lane/Fison Road pedestrian crossing. They were ripe and dropping from the tree on 19th July 2014 - just shake for some more (needs tall person or litterpicker). Also some yellow Mirabelle plums and others in hedge by car park. FHP #134
