🔍 When is it ripe?
Skin turns from pale orange to deep red; fruit becomes angular and the blossom end flattens slightly as arils expand. Tap the skin — a ripe pomegranate sounds metallic. Heavy for its size. A slight crack at the shoulder is fine. Do not wait for it to fall.
It's very likely the 'wonderful' variety - because they're really big and ligh colored. They're pretty sweet but many arils are white inside or very light pick or white with red lines inside - that's normal for when it's ripe. That doesn't mean it's unripe. It's sweet - but some of it is flavorless. The volume makes up for what it's lacking. They break open and bugs get in - so it's best to pick earliest possible before they break and open up. Just watch out for bugs is all. The owner is ok with anyone picking their tree and usually wants people to. Picking keeps the vermin away too. Still - that's what they told me and is fine with me picking their tree - but it's always good to double check and ask them before picking - since it's on their property - just in case.
