🔍 When is it ripe?
Pick when background colour shifts from green to yellow-green and the stem separates cleanly. Finish ripening indoors — flesh near the stem should give slightly when pressed.
Pears, possibly kieffer pears, growing on street tree in front of house on north side of street. They don't ripen as other varieties do, but stay firm -- more like a dense Asian pear. So they're better for cooking or baking than eating out of hand.
The homeowner has requested that people ask permission before picking pears from the tree.
