🌰
Black walnut
📍 3922 Sullivan Rd, Knoxville, TN 37921, USA
🗓 Season: September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Harvest when the green husk turns yellow-green and the nut falls naturally or can be shaken loose. Wear gloves — the husk stains permanently. Remove husk immediately, then cure nuts in a cool, airy place for 2–3 weeks before cracking. Intensely flavoured.
mature black walnut tree looming over the greenway, unripe fruits hang 7 - 10 feet in the air
(there are multiple trees, another even larger black walnut tree towers maybe 20 - 30 feet tall, right along the bend just past this, going away from the bridge)
