📍 10124 Little Pond Pl, Montgomery Village, MD 20886, USA
Black walnut
🗓 Season: September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Harvest when the green husk turns yellow-green and the nut falls naturally or can be shaken loose. Wear gloves — the husk stains permanently. Remove husk immediately, then cure nuts in a cool, airy place for 2–3 weeks before cracking. Intensely flavoured.
2 Huge Trees that yield a lot of Walnuts. They look tropical AF with those large leaves with multiple leaflets. Fruits smell so good. If you wanna harvest these for their edible nut, you are gonna have to process like crazy, they stain badly but the nut is worth it, taste better than the ones from store but more work. Remember fruit is not edible, it's the nut you are after. Once you clean off fruit pulp, you are gonna have to smash it with hammer (NO NUT CRACKER WILL NOT DO). You can also tap for syrup in early spring but timing it is a fucking hard thing to do.
