Ripe when fully coloured (white, red, or black by species) and falls at a touch. Spread a sheet and shake the branches. Extremely perishable — process or eat immediately.
On parkway between sidewalk and street. Parkways technically belong to the City of Chicago, but are the responsibility of the adjacent homeowner, so it's best practice to ask the homeowner first.
