🔍 When is it ripe?
Green husks turn brown and split; nuts drop naturally. Gather promptly before wildlife. Kernels should be plump and cream-coloured. Dry before storing.
Visible from the trail. Tall thin tree 4-6" diameter trunk +20 ft tall. Shagbark or Shellbark Hickory.
