Green husk cracks and turns brown-black when ripe, exposing the shell. Shake branches — ripe nuts fall freely. Gloves essential. Cure in a single layer for 2 weeks before storage.
walking away from Avoncliff towards the elbow bridge along the canal towpath, there are 3 or 4 walnut trees. this year, the most productive is the one closest to elbow bridge.
