🔍 When is it ripe?
Background skin colour shifts from green toward yellow; seeds turn brown when ripe. Fruit separates from the spur with a gentle upward twist. Aroma develops near the base. Wild Malus fruit is often small and tart — excellent for cider and jelly.
The tree on the right side of big Valley Drive (just over 1/2 mile up from the bottom of Delmonico and Big Valley intersection, has the most abundant and flavorful crab apples I've tasted! The tree is in the front yard of a home, so it is appropriate to ask permission if takingor than a taste!
