🌳
Hickory
📍 12 Macquoid St, Queanbeyan East NSW 2620, Australia
🗓 Season: September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Green husks turn brown and split; nuts drop naturally. Gather promptly before wildlife. Kernels should be plump and cream-coloured. Dry before storing.
This tree was first visited in winter so I can't be certain what type it is. I thought it was a walnut at first but after research I can see that the thicker shell has given it away as a hickory. One of the larger types like kingnut or mockernut. There were empty shells on the ground all around the tree. It's the large tree in the middle of the Sister City Park.
