🔍 When is it ripe?
Background colour changes from green to yellow or cream (variety determines final colour). Seeds inside should be brown. Flesh yields slightly to thumb pressure. A ripe apple releases with a gentle upward twist — no pulling. Check the ground for natural drops.
Close to 100 apple trees spread out throughout this field. Apples are not that healthy, indicating a lack of nutrients, and definitely some pest problems; They do make a killer cider/applesauce however. Many locals and MTU students know this field and deer eat their share. Keep an eye on these weekly in late fall as they don't last long once they are ripe.
