🔍 When is it ripe?
Dark blue-black clusters when ripe. Cook thoroughly before eating — raw berries are mildly toxic. Ripe when all berries are dark and clusters hang downward.
Good stand of elderberry near where the creek loops closest to the VA Capital Trail. Flowers are wonderful in tea or liqour, and the berries are quite nutritious. Watch for poison ivy here!
