Persimmon
🗓 Season: October · November
🔍 When is it ripe?
Non-astringent types: eat when orange and firm. Astringent types: wait until very soft and wrinkled. Both fully orange when ripe.
A handful (3 or 4) mature fruiting persimmon trees give this park its name. There are a few more smaller persimmon trees around in these woods toward the north end of the park, as well as some nice mature black walnuts that drop their fruit into a grassy field slightly farther south where it can be easily gathered. Lots of wild/dog rose and an abundance of spring greens make this a good foraging park, close to the city.
