Serviceberry

📍 830 W Hill Ave, Knoxville, TN 37902, USA
Serviceberry Public
🗓 Season: June · July
🔍 When is it ripe?
Small, round, turning from red to deep purple-black. Sweet and blueberry-like when fully dark. Birds eat them as soon as they ripen — check daily. Best fresh or in pies and jam.
Just as you pass from the parking lot into the Second Creek Greenway on the west-hand side, fully shaded from the other overhanging trees. The base is just a couple feet from the path. It's growing slowly due to the shade and doesn't produce a lot of berries as yet. Note that both parking lots on either side of the greenway here are university parking only.
