🔍 When is it ripe?
Background colour changes from green to yellow or cream (variety determines final colour). Seeds inside should be brown. Flesh yields slightly to thumb pressure. A ripe apple releases with a gentle upward twist — no pulling. Check the ground for natural drops.
Greenish small apple with red streaks. Nice and tart, also crisp. Good eating or pie apple. A very old tree from the historic farm that was here before it was a golf course.
The tree is on the Indian Peaks golf course, a City of Lafayette park. Best to access at dusk after the golfers are gone, as some risk of being hit by a golf ball.
